So I made a new computer and I need games on it. So I download speed and a couple of games, but my download speed is terrible. It's just 700kb/s on average, even without anyone using the internet. My old pc used to be 3.6 mbps, but that was because it was hooked into the router from verizon. Now I am using a ethernet hub, and it's 700kb/s on steam.
Why are Steam downloads so insanely fast compared to normal downloads?
From a browser or torrent, it takes a couple hours for me to download something that's 1GB. Downloading anything 10GB+ takes the entire day, usually much more (this one file took me 2 whole days to download, even with a decent speed and seeders).
But on Steam, it's pretty realistic to download a large 10GB+ file within half a day. I think this one 50GB game only took 24 hours. Compared to normal downloading, this is INSANELY fast, and it's very consistent too, always being a few hundred kb/s.
